Hi, everybody! It seems like this might be a good time to remind everyone of a few things about our approvals and communications rules.


I think everyone pretty much knows that you are required to send story drafts or art to character owners for approval. The part we want to emphasize here is that we have a 2 week "time out" period. We ask that you send things twice to another member during that 2 week period, and we advise that if you send it first by one method (like email), that if you don't hear back, you try a second time by various methods (such as, another email, but also a PM sent via the mb).

If you don't get an answer from the other member by the end of 2 weeks, you should feel free to submit the piece without obtaining approval. Just note when you are submitting it that that person's approval defaulted.

We understand that folks would really like other character owners' input on things. But, this system is meant to cut down on frustration for anyone who is trying to get a piece submitted, and just can't get a response. Ultimately, it's up to you, and if you want to spend a month trying to get approval, you can. We just want to make sure that everyone knows that the rules only require you to wait on a non-responder for 2 weeks.


Related to that -- as a member of RTH and a character-owner, we expect you to stay reasonably in touch with the group. Our rules require player members to log into the messageboard no less than once per month; and we strongly encourage logging in more often than that (once a week, at least). This is because, using mb PMs is often the best way to get around possible email problems.

If you know you're going to be out of touch or slow to respond, please think about putting up a note in the AWOL thread to alert others. (And if you are trying to get approvals for something, you might take a glance at that thread to see if a person you have to contact has posted there.)

If we hear that someone has defaulted on approval, and we don't know of any likely reason for it, the council will check to see when you last logged into the mb. If you haven't logged in within the past month, we'll start trying to contact you by all the means we know of. We'll keep that up for 2 weeks, and if we can't get a response from you within that time, we'll have to remove you from player status.

(We will only initiate this procedure if we hear you have defaulted on an attempt to get approval, though. Otherwise, we allow the quarterly participation system to run its course.)

So, that is a reason for you to try to keep in touch with the group regularly -- or to give us some warning if you need to be away for a bit.
